1.0 Introduction: Getting started!

Welcome to the first Module. This module gives you a running start as you prepare your own questionnaire (also called a survey) to evaluate a public engagement activity. I often say that if you think designing a good questionnaire is easy, you are probably doing it wrong! By the end of this module, you will see what I mean. It is well known within the social research methods literature on questionnaire design what constitutes good and poor practice. This week’s content will introduce you to key insights from this existing knowledge base to help you craft your own survey questions effectively and to identify how existing questions can be improved.
